Description of Activity/Task/Experience that demonstrates I am at or above standard in
the specific skills for the standard mentioned above:
One of the classes that Im taking in my senior year is Senior Inquiry. In this class
we talk about a couple different subjects such as: politics, global news, as well as
economics. Each couple classes we talk about news globally as well as relatively local.
Students are encouraged to bring up their own topics of news that they have heard about
and teachers share some as well. Since watching the news isnt a daily thing for me,
Senior Inquiry is a helpful way to learn about some of these issues of topics that come up
that I dont always here about. We are also encouraged to discuss these issues after they
are presented so that we are able to here different perspectives.
In Senior Inquiry we have had Socratic Seminars about some of the present issues
that is affecting us globally. We talk about social responsibility and how it comes into
place in our lives as well as our community. For example, we talked about how voting
could be a social responsibility that we have so that we have a say in what laws are
passed as well as what laws arent. We also are currently talking about global warming
and how much it is really affecting other countries and how its our responsibility to do us
much as we can to not contribute to the problem.
Explanation/Reflection of how the activity/task/experience described above meets or
exceeds the specific skills of the standard mentioned above:
I am thankful to have these class when I do because it is a college level class. It
becomes an important part in my education because of the fact that I will be able to vote
soon and I need to know about the events that are going on around me. Without this class
I think that Id be a lot less educated, because I dont watch the news or have other
chances to talk about these issues in other parts of my day. Also this class is very helpful
because we communicate a lot and share ideas so that I have a chance to hear other
peoples perspectives which is interesting because sometimes it changes my perspectives.
I hope that I will continue to be educated on these topics so that I am able to make the
important decisions when it comes to living in a democracy.
