the Grade 4 Science

Club at KCS
Beginning next month, an after-school science club will be starting for 4 th grade students! It will be run
by Mrs. Borges (Grade 4 Teacher at KCS). Students will be investigating questions using the Scientific
Method. For a detailed description of the planned investigations please see the back side of this sheet.
The club will be on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30pm 5:00pm. There will be two 6-week
sessions, with a 2-week break in between. Each session will be able to accommodate up to 20
students, with Session 2 open to 20 new students. (Session 1 students may have the option of signing
up for Session 2 if there is space available). Five students from each of the four 4 th grade classrooms will
be selected by random draw for participation in each of the sessions of the club.
There is a cost associated with joining the club to help cover the cost of running the program. The cost
per student per session is $20.00. This cost may go down if the KCS PTO is able to help fund the
cost of the program. If that is the case, then parents will be reimbursed for the difference.
*Note: Transportation home will need to be arranged by parents.
Session 1 dates (Wednesdays): February 18 th, 25th, March 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
Session 2 dates: (Wednesdays): April 22 nd, 29th, May 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th
If your child is interested in joining the Grade 4 Science Club, please fill out the form below and return it
to Mrs. Borges by Monday, February 2 nd. If your child is interested in joining both sessions,
please select 1 of the sessions as well in the event there is not enough space in the 2 nd
session for continuing. I will be looking for parent volunteers to help with the club (assist with
material set-up & distribution to students, guidance during investigations, and material clean up). Please
consider becoming a volunteer!
