Red Ribbon Week Planning Team

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.
This is a one time event during the month of October for an entire week.
Plan activities for the week to bring awareness to this campaign.
We will invite grades 3rd - 6th to help plan on this committee.

Recycling Team
-Students will sign up for a date and time to take recycling from the Recycle Center to the
designated area.
-Students will come into each classroom (K-5) to teach, share, and answer questions about how
and why to recycle.
-Students will build the new Recycle Center and we will find a central location for K-5 to take
their paper.
-K-5 teacher will pick their Recycle Leader(s) to empty to the Recycle Center once or twice a
week. This may be heavy so there will need to be more than one student.
-Students will build the new Recycle Center and we will find a central location for -5 to take
their paper and dump once or twice a week.

Tech Set Up Team (6th Grade Only)


*Help mark computer bags
*Put labels on equipment

Fine Arts Team (6th Grade Only)


Activities may include:
-Sort music, clean equipment, concert announcements
-Making recorder karate belts
-Sort art supplies
-Serve as ushers at concerts

Announcements Team
This Team is looking for people willing to speak on the intercom or possibly in person in
a classroom.
You will be giving announcements that are important to your audience or your school.
This Team will also be responsible for messages or school information to be displayed on
the Cadet sign in front of school.

Kitchen Helpers (grades 4-6)


An opportunity to assist with k-5 lunch. Jobs may involve washing tables, handing out trays,
napkins, and setting out 6th grade lunch tickets. Kitchen helpers would be scheduled during
study halls and must not be on the late work list on the day you are scheduled to work.
Box Tops/Receipts Team
* Collect Box Tops & Hy-Vee Receipts from the classroom.
* Sort the Box Tops & Hy-Vee Receipts from each other.
* Count the Box Tops
* Add the Hy-Vee Receipts

Yearbook Team (Second Semester Only)


Students will have the opportunity to help create the collage pages for the yearbook!

Concessions Stand (Grades 5 and 6 only)


Students will have the opportunity to work at least 1 JH football game, helping serve food.

Thank You Notes


Students write thank you notes for people who donate money or their time for our school.
Students will have a chance to learn how to write a thank you note. When that time is done,
students will be asked to write notes when needed. Meeting time would be only once but letter
writing would be on going.

Valentine Social
6th graders will assist in planning the party including, decorations, food, and music.
This is a one time event that occurs in February.
We will invite 6th graders to be on this planning committee.

E-Book Resource Team


Train groups of students to go to classrooms and train other students on how to use
e-resources that we already have access to such as Mackin and Teaching Books
First train 5th graders and then have them work with 3rd and 4th grade in small groups on
the fun extra add ons that can be done with the programs. Its not just reading books.
This should, in my opinion, be a winter project to be trained.

Grounds Crew
* This committee would be in charge of picking up garbage, pulling weeds,
helping Jeff or Andy maintain our building and playground.
* Looking around to see what needs to be done
* This would be ongoing (especially before big school events like open)

Big Buddies (Grades 4-6)


1. Help K/1st grade students with recess gear by assisting them when they need help with
zippers, snow pants, etc. DO NOT do it for them, help them. Times needed: 9:40, 11:40, 1:30
2. Hallway Monitoring before lunch recess (11:40ish) in K/1 and 2nd hall to move kids along to
recess and not socializing in halls.
