Overall Comments:
Ms. Heeney demonstrated an obvious passion for teaching young children and was able to relate easily to all students. She demonstrated patience towards special education students. Her sparkling eyes, infectious smile
and enthusiasm captivated students when she read stories and played cooperative games. She shared her interest in animals (chicks, rabbit) and created a drama centre, a chick observation centre and a chick bulletin

Ms. Heeney identified goals for the students based on learning expectations and refined and adjusted
these as needed. With collaboration, she assessed student needs and prior learning experiences in
order to create effective lessons. She created success criteria to support student learning. Ms. Heeney
was always extremely organized. She prepared learning materials and expertly set up the classroom.

Ms.Heeney encouraged student curiousity through her introductory lessons (i.e. stories, baby chicks).
Her teaching strategies always encouraged active hands-on student involvement. Ms. Heeney
implemented a series of measurement (balance scale) and chick activities. She carefully sequenced
lessons, prepared materials and provided physical spaces for optimum learning and behavioural
success. She provided opportunities to allow for exploration, consolidation and application of the
content. She integrated oral language, writing, creative thinking, problem solving and social skills. She
effectively used observation to improve student learning. She developed an awareness of pacing and
timing. She will continue to refine these skills as she develops her ability to balance individual student

Ms. Heeney communicated effectively. She developed an awareness of the need to vary her tone,
volume and expression in her voice to enhance the delivery of her lessons. She used questioning
techniques to clarify understanding of concepts and instructions with individuals. With further teaching

levels of thinking. Ms. Heeney consistently promoted a safe learning environment while encouraging
student independence and responsibility. As she developed confidence in her voice, her attention
