Lesson 8 Email
(Student Book B Pg 8 - 10)

Starter What is email short for?

Electronic mail.
1. Explain the store and forward system.
The sender and recipient(s) of an email message do not have to be online at the same
time. When one person sends a message, it is stored on an email server. It waits in store
until the recipient signs in, at which point the server forwards the message to them. The
system is known as a store and forward system . This is of great bene! t when sending
messages and documents to people in different time zones around the world
2. Explain the different fields highlighted in the picture below.

1.
2.
3.

1: where you enter recipients email addresses

2: email using the cc is (carbon copy) filed. Everybody who is entered into this filed will be visible to
everybodys email what is sent.
3: if you dont want to include a reception on an email but you dont want other people to see that the
email has been sent to them then you add them into the BBC (blind carbon copy) filed.
3. List five positive and negative aspects of using email.
Positive:

Negative:

1.Cost. Unlike the conventional

mail
system, there is no additional
cost to
the standard broadband charges
2. Webmail providers (including
Hotmail and Gmail) tend to store
emails on a remote provider,
meaning that you can access
them
anywhere via a web browser
3Having a record of the
correspondence between users

2.Privacy and security. People can

hack
into your emails and read material
which should not be available. Some
of that material may pose a risk to
your security, that of your employer
or even that of the nation.
3. Internet access. The fact that both
sender and recipient(s) have to have
email accounts can be a problem.
Some people do not have access to
the internet (or choose not to use it)
so you cannot assume that everyone
has an email account
