DIVISION ONE

February 1, 2015

Douglas Elementary School

So Much Learning!
It is hard to believe that it is February already. We have done so much in such a
short time. The students of Division One have really stepped up this year and
have learned so many things.

How to format and write a report

How to produce a presentation using various media tools such as PowerPoint, Prezi, & iMovie

How to research various topics using multiple sources, and how to cite those
sources.

How to work cooperatively, including how to plan, organize and execute.

All students should be proud of their work,

and I am sure that when you come for Parent - Teacher Conferences on April 8 &
9, you will be so impressed with the work your child had done. The quality of the
work completed recently has surprised even the students. But thats our goal,
right?

To have students achieve more than they thought they could.

All of you should be so proud of the great work you have
done, and the quality of work you have produced!
-

Intelligence plus
character - that is
the goal of true
education.

think critically.

We have a lot to do before Spring Break, so please pay attention to due dates. Use the website to keep up on whats going
on.

Camp will take place on June 1-3 this year. Please remember

You may not always be the best, but you can always be your best!

Here are some great things

your kids have done this term.
iMovie Projects with Division 2
This term, Division 1 and 2 worked together to write an information
video on a topic of their choosing. From 9/11 to Koalas, Ebola to
Gender Inequity, the students have produced amazing videos that
demonstrate the skills and talent they have enhanced this year at
Douglas.

Science and Social Studies Presentations

We have been learning about our amazing Earth in Science, and
Ancient Civilizations in Social Studies. Students have been learning about everything from Magnetic Pole Reversals to folding
rocks, and from religion to technology. They have been preparing
presentations and notes to share with their classmates. I must say,
the quality of the presentations and the orating skills have improved dramatically. What amazing work they are doing.

Farewell to Mme. Katy and Anti-Bullying Day

Division One stepped up, yet again, to do good in our school community. Michelle and Shawn created an amazing card for Mme.
Katys leaving gift, and the students from our whole pod chipped in
to buy her some gift cards. At her leaving assembly, we not only
presented Mme. Katy with her beautiful card, but also performed a
pop-up poem in front of the whole school.
For Anti-Bullying Day, we are preparing a fun song with our Little
Buddies from Ms. Wards class. The song is called, No Put Downs.
Ask your child to sing it to you...I bet they can!

Volunteers and Players

We have so many students in our class that volunteer for everything from Student Leadership to The Green Team (Recycling),
helping with assemblies, and more. Also, many of our class is playing basketball on the Sr. Boys and Sr. Girls teams. We only have a
few games left. Come on out and cheer us on!
We have a great class, dont we?!
Nothing is impossible. In fact, the word itself says, Im possible!
