CLASSROOM REGULATIONS

ENGLISH

Never settle for less than your best.


This year we shall work together confidently and comfortably. We shall read, write, and
share ideas. To do this effectively we must all practice respect and tolerance for one
another. Complete attention must be given when someone is speaking. Learning other
opinions is one of the best ways to help form your own. Before answering a question or
contributing to a discussion, you must raise-your hand and be recognized by the teacher.
Unnecessary chatting is a distraction and holds back the rest of the class.
Materials Needed for Class:

Loose-leaf binder or Marble/Spiral notebook


Folder for tests, quizzes, and handouts

MLA Heading is required on all TYPED assignments. The heading is flush at the left
hand margin. A sample is given below:

Class Regulations
1. All school rules will be enforced.
2. Students will have their own pens, pencils, books and loose leaf.
3. Upon entering the classroom, students will take their seats and remain in them
unless given permission to leave.
4. Respect for others and their belongings will be expected.
5. No student will write on any desk.
6. No texting at any time during class. Phones must NOT be used during class
without the teachers permission.

GRADING POLICY ENGLISH 9


Ms. Cardino

The following criteria will be used to calculate students grades each quarter:
1. 30% written assignments paragraphs, essays, research papers, informal
writing. Grades will be based on both content and form.
> Failure to complete the research paper may result in an automatic
failing grade for the course. Two papers are a graduation
requirement.
2. 20% quizzes which assess knowledge of small body of work (e.g. reading
assignments, vocabulary unit, grammar.)
3. 30% tests which assess a large body of work (e.g. novels, plays, groups of
short stories or poems.) Notice will be given at least a week prior to a test.
4. 20% homework both reading assignments and written assignment are
required. Students should expect to spend eight to ten hours per week.

Make-up Policy: It is the students responsibility to arrange make-up work missed


because of absence from class. All reading and composition assignments are due
regardless of absences. Exceptions may be made in certain unusual circumstances.
