Attendance in classes is mandatory from the very beginning of the semester. Students who
miss even asinglelecture from among the first three lectures of a course are liable to have
themselves deregisteredfromthecorrespondingcourse.

NI.1.

ManyAcademic Units organize an Orientation Programme for TeachingAssistants and an

R&DOrientation for new Postgraduate/ Undergraduate entrants.An Institute level orientation is
also often organized for these purposes. Attendance and participation in the orientation
p rogramme is mandatory for Teaching Assistants. Absencefrom it will make the Teaching
Assistant liable for a financial penalty in the scholarship/financial support. All academic units/
Instructors of Institute Core Courses are expected to organize the orientation in aformat which
theyfindappropriate,toenablethebestuseoftheservicesofTeachingAssistants.

NI.2.

Saturdays may be used to conduct Midsemester and Semesterend Examinations. An effort is

normallymadetoexcludeSundaysandpublicholidaysformandatedacademicactivities,including
examinations.

NI.3.

Registrationforhalfsemestercoursesshouldalsobecompletedatthebeginningofthesemester.

NI.4.

While adjusting the courses (including dropping of courses), students should ensure that the
prescribedload,asapprovedforeachprogramme,ismaintained.

NI.5.

ReexaminationsshallbeconductedbytheAcademicOfficeforstudentsincourses,wheretheyare
awardedII/FFGrades.

NI.6.

Dates for payment of fees by New Entrants will be informed to the candidates while offering
admissionand will also be put on IITB website. These dates could be different for various
programmes offered by theInstitute.

NI.7.

Students (PG/UG) other than the NewEntrants can deposit their semester fees as per schedule
displayedbytheAcademicOfficebeforetheendofexaminationfortheearliersemester.

NI.8.

ThedatesforSpring2015maybereadjustedafterholidaysareknown.

NI.9.

There will not beany instruction (lectures / tutorials/lab sessions) in the afternoons of the
Convocation Day, Teachers Day, National Education Day, Foundation Day (on the day it is
celebrated).Ascheduleforcompensationofmissedclasses(ifany)onthenearestSaturdayswill
beannouncedbytheAcademicOfficeafterapprovalbytheInstituteTimeTableCoordinator.

NI.10.

AscheduleofadjustmentsintheInstituteTimeTablewillbeannounced,ifneeded,toprovide38
41 instruction hours in each 6credit course and to approximately balance the number of
instructionhoursinthetwohalvesofasemester.
