DIRECTIONS FOR GRAPHING ON EXCEL

1. Enter the x and y values in the first two columns of a spread sheet
2. click on one box
3. click on chart wizard
4. click on xy scatter data point
5. click on series
6. click on add
7. click on x- spreadsheet, highlight x-values if not already entered
8. click on y- spreadsheet, highlight y-values if not already entered
9. click on wizard
10. click on next
11. click on chart title, enter title of graph
12. click on x-axis, enter label for x
13. click on y-axis, enter label for y (ex. Percent change in mass)
14. click on next
15. click on as a new sheet
16. click on finish
17. right click on any point
18. click on chart
19. click on add a trendline
20. click on linear
21. click on OK

click on y- error bars
click on both
click on custom
enter +: first number, second number, separated by a comma and a space. (It is
the difference between a point (the mean) and the highest value in each line. Ex.
6.97-4.51 = 2.46, 8.26-6.48 = 1.78. only enter the result)
8. enter -: first number, second number, separated by a comma and a space. (It is the
difference between a point (the mean) and the lowest value in each line. Ex. 6.484.24 = )
9. click on OK
10. click on title text box: add title including a mention of the error bars, ex. Error
bars represent variability of measured values or the range of reasonable values
that can occur
11. Click on chart to edit/copy/paste in word document
