discussion on carpet

-introduces research strategies

for the internet, (open search,
type brainpop, click on your
energy type, look at questions,
look through the site, write down
the answers)
books (look at table of contents,
go to topic, read, write it down)
asks: how do you know what to
write down?
-models how to figure out what
to write down when there is a lot
of information

-student responses, write

down answer to question and
if there are a lot of answers,
write down what makes the
most sense
-ask questions after
expectations are given
2:50
-start working in groups to
research different energy
sources, (each group
researching their own energy
source)

-reviews expectations for project

-dismiss students from carpet

Think:
Students

Teacher(s)

-engaged with topics

-impressed by how comfortable
students were researching and
taking notes
-collaborated really well

-instruction is so specific and spells out

expectations for students, leaves little
room for uncertainty
-management allows students to be
more independent
-very apparent that you really think
through the sequence of your lessons,
your time and effort is visible and
appreciated

Wonder:
How did you teach research strategies, or note taking strategies?
Students seem really comfortable looking at a resource and taking notes,
something that I noticed is difficult for most students at ECS.
