Ryan and Layne aim to create an affordable water filtration solution to help the nearly 1 billion people without clean water access. Their goal is to design a simple and inexpensive filter that can lower the turbidity of 250mL of 250 NTU water within 5 minutes, using locally available materials. They plan to complete their design over the next 4 days at their camp and home to create a solution that can be implemented worldwide.

Nearly a billion people today are without access to clean water and over six million die annually from the effects of inadequate water and sanitation. To this end we, Ryan Rumminger and Layne Gillam are going to create available water filtration solution that will be readily available to the world. We are going to create a solution that will lower the turbidity of 250 milliliters of 250 NTU water in five minutes. We will create a solution that is simple, cheap and readily available to the world over the next the next four days here at actc and home.
