HARLES, BENJAMn. Improvement in Clothes-pins. Vincent D. Ubso, assignee. Patent US141740 A.
12 Aug. 1873. Print.

Patent Number:

US 141740 A
Patent Summary:
This is a patent for an improvement to the clothes-pin. It is a U shaped double jaw design.
The design greatly improves the power of the U-shaped spring for increased grip. The spring
also serves as its own fulcrum.
Patent Critique:
This Patent matters because it is the oldest for clothes pin I could find. Even modern clothes
pins seemed to based on this basic design. The sketch is not very descriptive and only
contains one view.
