Snow Vacation Packet!

It looks as though we are experiencing a snow vacation and there are no


signs of stopping! In this packet you will find Math activities for your child
to complete. Students that complete this packet will get a choice of
selecting from the prize box or choosing a rewards coupon of their choice.
This packet is filled with math because students should be working on their
reading log and passages

Word Problems:

Use model drawing to solve the following problems.


1. Bobby and Patrick want to each build a snowman. Bobby says he only
needs 2/3 cup of snow to build his and Patrick says he needs 4/6 cup
of snow to build his. Who will use more snow to build their snowman?

2. Maria wants to sew a scarf for her mom. She has a foot of yarn to
use. If she used 4/8 of the yarn, how much yarn does she have left?
What is an equivalent fraction or another way to say how much yarn
she has left.

Finding Equivalent Fractions!


1. Shade 2/8 of the rectangle blue. Shade 1/4
of the rectangle yellow!

2. Shade 2/3 of the rectangle and leave 2/6 white.

3. Which fraction is equivalent to 1 whole?

Snowflake Fractions! (OPTIONAL)


Materials:
Q-tips
Glue
Paper
Directions:
1. Break your q-tips apart (easier and safer than cutting them) like we
did in class. If you bend them a few times then twist, they break
apart easily.
2.

Write 2 fractions. One with how many pieces with the q-tips were
used and then how many pieces without the cotton parts were used.
3. Challenge: Write a word problem to go with your snowflake!
