Interviewer: How would you describe Corazon Aquino?
Attorney Venturanza: She was definitely an inspiration to the Filipino people. I remember when Marcos won the last time, everyone hid. No one was really outside because in fear of him, but with Cory, she inspired people to go out and fight for their rights and fight for themselves. I actually fought as well. I remember being out the streets in all yellow fighting for the peoples power. Cory inspired me to become who I am now. Still fighting for justice. Interviewer: Was Corazon Aquino an effective leader? How was her leadership? Attorney Venturanza: She was brave and took in the problems head start. Her husband died and several military coup attempts were made on her. It must have been really tough for her but she was still able to raise the Philippines from tyranny and bring back democracy. She used her humble characteristics as part of the Filipino people, to be the leader of the people. Interviewer: What do you believe is Corys long lasting legacy? Attorney Venturanza: Besides restoring democracy, she is still the sign for hope and peace. To start revolutions without the act of violence. Although, Cory did leave an economy in the Philippines that wasnt well compared to past presidents. Because of the military coup attempts, Cory wasnt really able to work with her government and increase economic stability. After her, there was somewhat a rise in the economy, but the size of families in poverty increased. And then came with it the huge social separation between the rich and the poor. Philippines has yet to eliminate poverty and it will definitely take years to rid of it.
