Rhetorical Analysis: Speech of Corazon C. Aquino

Cory Aquino was first female president of the Philippines, leader of the People
Power Revolution of 1986, which ended the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos after
twenty years in power, and on September 18th, 1986, she spoke in front of the joint
session of U.S. congress. A discussion on the events in the Philippines and the
underlying reality. In order to assist our country, to rise from the ashes of Marcos'
tyranny, Cory wants to bring it up as a plea for aid or as an alliance with the United
States. She spoke extensively about the suffering of Filipinos during her speech.
Describes how we are harmed by the actions of a corrupt dictator and brings up the
topic of our multi-billion-dollar debt which successfully strikes or touches the hearts of
the listeners because it uses emotional appeal to the public.
During her address, she began by discussing the death of her husband, Ninoy
Aquino, and how that death represented the rebirth of our country for her. To summon
the strength and conviction necessary to seize back control of our lives. She talked
about the struggles of the people to fight for justice and human rights when Ferdinand
Marcos was still our president. Describes the process she uses to get people to accept
democracy as a way of life and described the state of those who had survived those
periods. She mentioned the peace agenda. She said that in our country, blood drawn
with a whip will not be paid for with blood drawn with a sword, but with the crying joy of
reconciliation. A firm believer in the power of dialogue to resolve conflicts. She even
broached the subject of our $1 billion debt, from which we have reaped no rewards
since. The struggles of the Filipino people had been thrown to the wind and were
rendered meaningless. Finally, she requests an alliance with the United States in order
to create new hope and a new base for democracy. Throughout her address, she
conveys a sincere love for the United States of America. The truth she told
strengthened her credibility and appealed to ethos, and she used her voice in
developing her case as she offers an alliance that will assist to boost our country again
for the future generation's optimism.
The way she delivered her speech was really informative, since she included
details regarding what had occurred in our country at the time. She is personally
affected by and has first-hand knowledge of the difficulties the Philippines has faced.
She discusses the truth about the unpaid labor or bill that was stolen from us and from
which we never received any reward. The peace agenda and the democratic process by
which we gained our freedom. And she does this by persuading others to support her as
she works to restore faith in our country, which has always stood on the side of
humanity. And she demonstrates herself to be our new leader at that point in time. She
demonstrates to Filipinos as well as the rest of her listeners just how generous and
caring she is who was willing to stand out for human rights, peace, or freedom and help
heal the nation's wounds after the long period of turmoil that was martial law in our
country.
To summarize, Cory has emerged as an outstanding leader in our country, and
she will do everything it takes to raise our country once more. Demonstrating that
despite of her gender, she is capable of making a difference despite. Her speech
focuses on our triumph in attaining what we desire, which is the essence of democracy.
As a result, other nations are persuaded to join with us as we develop or create fresh
hope for a better country where justice, understanding, and peace were on the side of
everyone.
