Core Competencies

Tanya Haislip

Competency 5
Advance human rights and social and
economic justice.
Advocating for our client base either
through direct contact on a case by case
basis or through encouraging policy
change on a mezzo or macro level.

Practice Behaviors
5.1 Understand the forms and
mechanisms of oppression and
discrimination.

When a report is made by the

same reporter or on the same
family repeatedly, the staff at
CPS tends to rely on their
preconceived notions.

Practice Behaviors
5.2 Advocate for human rights
and social and economic
justice.

Often, APS reports are

screened out because of the
three criteria that are required
for a screen in, however, quite
a few of those individuals still
need help. I have advocated
for several individuals to at
least receive some kind of link
or direction to find
appropriate services.

Practice Behaviors
5.3 Engage in practices that
advance social and economic
justice.

APS does, however, provide

outreach services to those that
qualify.
