ABOUT THE AUTHOR


Born in New York City, Tony Kushner grew up in Louisiana, where
his father inherited the family lumber business. peaking about his
parents, Kushner said, I think I inherited a certain style of thinking
and fascination with history and a certain kind of moralism from
my father. And I think I inherited a certain passion and anger and
outspokenness from my mother.
He attended Columbia University where he earned a degree in
medieval studies and completed a master of fine arts degree at
New York University in 1984. His first play, A Bright Room Called
Day (1987), is about Hitlers rise and contemporary America. It was
followed by Angels in America which received unanimous critical
acclaim. In 1993 Millennium Approaches won the Pulitzer Prize for
drama and Tony Awards for best play, best actor, and best director;
it also won five Drama Desk Awards and awards from the New
York Drama Critics Circle, the London Evening Standard, and the
San Francisco Drama Critics, among other honors. Perestroika
earned three Tony Awards, three Drama Desk Awards, three Outer
Critics Circle Awards, and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle
Award, among other prizes. Angels in America was made into an
HBO mini-series, starring Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, and Emma
Thompson. It won eleven Emmys in 2004.
Kushners other works include Slavs! (1995), Homebody/Kabul, a
play about Afghanistan which opened shortly after the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001, Caroline or Change, a musical with
composer Jeanine Tesori (2002), and The Intelligent Homosexual's
Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures(2009). He
has also written adaptations of Corneilles The Illusion, S.Y. Anskys
The Dybbuk, Brechts The Good Person of Setzuan and Mother Courage
and Her Children.

Oskar Eustis.

There will be two, brief ten-minute intermissions

Jonathan Bailey (Joseph Porter Pitt)

This is Jonathans first show at Avenue 10 and he has had a great and
wonderful time getting to know everyone and Avenue 10s cause. He has
been in theatre upwards of 7 years. He started out at Amarillo High
playing Buffalo Bill in Annie Get Your Gun. He wants to thank all those
that made Avenue 10 known to him.

Ashely Bragg (Belize, Mr. Lies)

Ashely has been performing with Avenue 10 for several years. She has
been seen in The Rocky Horror Show, Rent and most recently Fat
Pig. She hopes to soon join a touring cast and perform professionally.
She would like to thank Ethan for being awesome.

David Burton (Roy Cohn)

David has been involved in more that 200 productions in college,


community theatre, and professional theatre. He is one of the four
founders of Avenue 10, and is pleased to finally have a place to call home
again. He just finished directing Fat Pig, Avenue 10s last show, and
will be directing The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?, Avenue 10s next show.
In order to play Roy, David had 14 inches of hair donated to Locks of
Love.

Jessica Burton (Director, Hannah Porter Pitt, Ethel Rosenberg)

Angels In America is Jessicas third directing project outside of college.


Her previous directing ventures include Bent and The Laramie
Project. Jessica has a degree in theatre from Amarillo College and West
Texas A&M University. Recently she has gone back for a second
bachelors in Music Performance and is hoping to continue on for a
Masters degree in Opera. She is one of the four founders of Avenue 10
and thanks everyone for their support over the past two years.

Kate Felkins (Angel, Rabbi Isidor Chemelwitz, Henry, Martin Heller,


Sister Elle Chapter, The Woman in the South Bronx)

Kate is proud to return to Avenue 10 for Angels in America! She is a


senior musical theatre major at WT. Recently, she preformed in The
Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, RENT, The Madness of King George III,
and The Beauty and the Beast. This fall, she will be directing Doubt
by John Stanley for the WT season. She would like to thank her parents
for being awesome. Enjoy the show!

Lars Maurseth (Prior Walter)

This is Lars first show with Avenue 10, hopefully among many more.
Angels in America will bring him one show away from his 10th show in
his seven years of devotion to theatre. He is a performance theatre major
at West Texas A&M University where hes been in shows such as The
Madness of King George III and Twelfth Night. We have an amazing
cast and amazing show, and he trusts it will affect you just as much as it
affected him.

David Moersch (Stage Manager)

David is excited about returning to Avenue 10. David has performed in


Phantom of the Opera, Midsummers Night Dream, The Laramie
Project, and Midsummers Night Nude. This is Davids first time
being a part of the crew. He is excited for being stage manager. David
would like to thank Avenue 10 for keeping the magic alive.

Russell Reed (Louis Ironson)

Russell is a resident of Amarillo and has been performing since the age of
9. Angels in America is his second show with Avenue 10. He is
currently a student of Amarillo College. His interests include music, rock
climbing, outdoor pursuits of all kinds, and volunteering at Temple Bnai
Isreal.

Crystal Williams (Harper Amaty Pitt)

Crystal has appeared in several other shows with Avenue 10 including


Blasted, Midsummers Night Nude, Christ Alive, The Laramie
Project and Fringe Amarillo. Crystal is thrilled to appear in Angels in
America with such an amazing cast.
