1. THESIS STATEMENT

Present the projects argument or interpretation in two sentences. If you are using the NHD theme, you might want to
make it evident in your thesis statement.

In the 1920s, Blues Music emerged to Chicago and increased musical performances and black
urban enclaves. Blues Music gained popularity and it transformed Chicago and increased the
amount of African Americans by 33% around 1970.

2. SUMMARY OF PROJECT

Briefly explain your project and its conclusion. Include: How and why did change happen and what was the impact?
Why is it historically significant? What historical meaning or importance can we learn from your findings?

Our project is on the history of Blues Music. The Great Migration brought blues music into
Chicago because millions of African Americans from the South traveled to the North bringing
blues music with them. The Great Migration occurred because African Americans from the
South wanted to escape racial discrimination. The Great Migration increased the population of
African Americans in Chicago.

3. Required for projects using the National History Day theme only.

Explain how this project integrates the NHD theme Leadership & Legacy in [Chicago/Illinois] History into its argument.

Blues started all the way in the South. In order to escape racial discrimination, millions of
people traveled all the way to America along with the blues rhythm, and that shows that they
had legacy. Blues music had its own style. It completely changed what music was.
