Distinguish between the concepts of fact and truth in Biblical literature
Recognise the idea that deep truths can be conveyed in stories
Consider and discuss what the stories of origins in Genesis reveal about God

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:

Provision for students at educational risk:

Prepare WebQuest
Check the chosen video clips are suitable
Check that the ICT equipment is working

Strugglers: give explicit instructions, check for

understanding and encourage during group
work
Disruptive: consider these students when
grouping students for collaborative work

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
Were students able to explain what is meant when we say the Bible is inspired by God?
Were students able to distinguish between the concepts of fact and truth in Biblical literature?
Were students able to think creatively taking into consideration prior knowledge and ideas as well as the new
information presented, to summarize what the stories of origins in Genesis reveal about God?
Were students able to collaborate and discuss different ideas letting everyone have a say?

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

Did we supply students with sufficient information to allow them to complete the lesson objectives?
Did the lesson engage the students?
Were all students able and willing to participate?
Were the objectives of the lesson met?
What can be improved on?

Motivation and Introduction:

5mins

Welcome students and introduce the topic of our origins with discussion of
Babylonian creation story.
Ask students to logon to weebly page Its all Good!
We have previously looked at how God created the world out of an excess
of His love remember we discussed that God didnt have to He wanted
to, to share this outpouring of love with his creatures. Building on this
understanding we can see that the world was made good.

Discuss that although God made everything good, we have all

looked around and asked ourselves why the world is in the state
that it is in.

The news highlights all the sad and bad things that happen. So,
where is God and why isn't the world a better place?

God DID make everything good and exploring this unit of work, we

will investigate why we can say this.

We are going to do some detective work and find out what the Bible
can tell us about God and how reliable the Bible really is. We will
start with Genesis, the first book in the Bible.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

The teacher will direct students to the Introduction page.
The teacher will introduce the idea that stories can be used to convey truths,
the details of the stories may not be scientifically or historically factual, but
the lesson or ideas they convey are true to human nature and human
happiness. The best examples of these types of stories are those we find in
Genesis.
Students will be directed to Task 1.

15mins

To tune the students in to Creation, they will brainstorm in an Answer

Garden.
The teacher will ask students to pair up with their shoulder partners and
watch the YouTube clip on the creation story. They will be advised to take
notes of the order of creation.
After this students will take the information they gathered and make a
timeline focusing on the order of creation and illustrating it with pictures.
These will be printed out for display in the classroom.
The teacher will call students attention and ask each group to give
feedback on their answers to the questions.
Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

5mins

When we teach this lesson to our classes, we will continue with research
into the Divine inspiration of the Bible and conclude the lesson as follows:
So class we have seen that the accounts of creation contain deep truths in
story form. They contain an explanation of origins. They tell us about why
not how God created the world and people, and they give us insight into
what our purpose is.
We will discuss this purpose in our next lesson.
We have uploaded a link to an interesting talk by Fr Robert Barron on
misreading Genesis. Have a look at it, it will provide you with information for
our next lesson.
