Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th Grade Math Team Candidates,

Your child has been selected to participate in the 6th grade Math Team. Placement into
this team was determined by past grades, ISAT math scores, sixth grade readiness test,
and basic fact timed tests.
This team will be covering the same material as in our regular class, but there will be less
drill given because the students in this program generally grasp math concepts quickly.
Students will also learn new ways and deeper thinking methods for problems inside and
outside the classroom. In order to be successful in this program, students will need to be
responsible, act in a 6th grade manner, and come to practices on time. If a student does
not come to practice on time or is not on his/her best behavior, they will be dropped
from the program. We will have practices once a week during RTI time (10-10:30).
Math Team is a great opportunity to develop more math skills and compete with other
schools! We plan on entering at least 2 meets this year. Dates TBA.
I encourage every student that has been selected for the program to try it out. I consider it
a great privilege to have the opportunity to work with these bright math students. If you
