ROCK INTO READING

2.
ACCELERATED READER CHALLENGE The students have been doing a lot of reading to
meet their student self -challenge. The Accelerated Reader points goal is 9,000. They have
3,700 accumulated points. Points will be tallied on March 27 th. The students are looking forward to
the March is Reading Month Assembly to see who will be the lucky winners. We have a long way
to go so grab a book and READ, READ, READ!
3.
OVERDUE BOOKS - Notices for overdue library books are being sent home as needed. Please
help your student locate the book or send in payment if it cannot be located. If books are found at
a later date, the money will be refunded. Your help in this matter is very much appreciated.
4.

SUBWAY is again having their Feed a Friend donation campaign on Thursday, March 19th.

KEICHER KONNECTIONS WEEK OF MARCH 16, 2015

Michigan Center Subway will donate all food items brought into their store to the MC Food Pantry.
Last year, we received a pick-up load of food! Lets challenge our school to surpass last years goal.
5. EARTH HOUR 2015 will take place on Saturday, March 28th between 8.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. in
your local time zone. The event is held worldwide towards the end of March annually, encouraging
individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one
hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet. This Earth Hour we want you to go beyond the
hour. So after the lights go back on think about what else you can do to make a difference. Every
little bit helps! Together we can make a DIFFERENCE.
6. The MICHIGAN CENTER COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY will be open every 2 nd and 4th Tuesday of the
month from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. The pantry is located at the west end of Keicher. Follow the signs
through the Pre-School playground gate. See dates above.
7. SPRING PICTURES - Pictures were sent home last week for you to preview. If you would like to
purchase portraits, please return your payment and any un-purchased portraits to school as soon
as possible. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated as we would like to
conclude our schools spring picture program. A special thanks to the ones that have been so
prompt in getting them returned.
8. EASTERN BRANCH LIBRARY HAPPENINGS March is Reading Month and we are celebrating here
at the Eastern Branch! In addition to our regular preschool story times on Thursday mornings, we
have several other great things for families and kids. On Saturday, March 14, we have another
Mario Kart Tournament at 2:00 p.m. This is getting popular, folks, as we are getting an increasing
number of happy kids attending. Of course, we have some great snacks to go with it. There are
board games and LEGOS for anyone who wants to use them as well.
Remember, we are located right next to Arbys on East Michigan Avenue. Come check us out or call
us at 788-4074 for more information on any of these programs!
