Observation Task 1: Introduction to the learning environment


Focus: The learning context
Student teachers will settle into the school, find out calendar/timetable and any
other important information about the school.
TASK and OBSERVATION: Put this into paragraph form at the end of the day.
Introduce yourself to your Mentoring Teacher. Tell him/her about yourself, also
about the Bachelor of Applied Science Program and your tasks for the day. I
introduced my self to the assistant teachers and miss zainb and I told them that
I am a trainee teacher .
Find out from your MST when a good time each week will be for you to discuss
that days task. My teacher prefer to discuss with me before the kids come on
the class at 8 clock .
Find out when the breaks are/ where you can go during the breaks/where the
restroom is/ where the refrigerator (for your lunch and cold drinks) is, etc.The
break will be at one clock for sixty minute , I can go any where I want but I should
came back on time . The rest room is the first room after the nurse room .

Where is she/he from? She is a woman and she is from Pakistan

Nursery about one year and few months .
How long has he/she been a teacher? She has been a teacher from three
years .
How many students are in the class? There are 24 students in the class room .
How many boys? There are 12 boys .
Girls? There are 12 girls .
What nationalities? The students are from different nationalities like :
Pakistan , Egypt ,Emirates , India, Britain, Jordan , Africa , USE .
Find the staffroom and introduce yourself to two OTHER staff members during
your breaks. Tell them why you are in the school and when you will visit. Find
out their names, what they teach and where they are from and add to your TP
booklet.

Find your way around the school/workplace and find the
Library : it is in the middle of the college .
Cafeteria : it is beside the nursery .
Playground :it is in front of the nursery .
Find the following for your TP booklet:
o Photocopy or photograph a class list and the classroom calendars.
Complete the School/workplace Profile paper (next page) . The teacher
didnt allowed me to take a picture .
o Identify important dates (holidays, school events, trips etc.) on the
School/workplace Calendar . My teacher said that she will ask for permission
first then she will gave all the information , however she told me that they
have activities in this week its the reading week that kids parents come to the
class and read story for the kids , and they have the sport week in the next
week and they start to prepare for it .

o Map the themes to be studied, important school events, trips etc. during
the weeks you will be in the school. My teacher said she will ask for
permission first from the school administration then she will give me the
information .
o Make a copy of the weekly/daily class timetable . My teacher said she
will ask for permission first from the school administration then she will
give me the information .

Get involved with the learners as directed by your mentor. Find out
what they are doing and why. I ask her when I saw something interesting like
when she let the students dance after the lunch she said that this is the best way to use
their energy .

Ask permission to take photographs of the displays, the learning


environment and learners. They didn't allowed me .
Find out how the school/workplace wants to be contacted and who
you contact if you are going to be late or absent.I took the teachers
Emile and her number so I can contact with her if I have question or I want came .

REFLECTION: Write in paragraph form

We have spoken about making a good first impression. What did you do today to
make a good first impression? How did you feel on your first day? Did your feelings
change throughout the day? Explain what happened and how you were feeling. Do
you feel you made a good first impression? Write a brief overview of your first day at
TP.

The first impression is very important in TP , thats why I did my best to have
my good first impression . To make my own good first impression I come on time and
then when I enter the class I introduced my self to the assistant teachers and they did
the same . I kept smiling for everyone , I participate in their activities and I help the
teacher in organising the class . Moreover I didn't use my phone at the class time and I
request permission from the teacher before I take picture or taking information such
as the activities schedule for this year .

In the beginning of the lesson the class was quite but after they get their
lunch the kids start to jump every where then I felt afraid . I thought that the teacher
will couldnt control the class ,but she did . She plays a song then they start to dance.
After that when I ask her why did she does that she said that this is the best way to
use the kids energy and prepare them for the next lesson which is the alphabets
lesson . My feeling didn't change I was surprise all the day because I found that the
teacher can control this young children .

I liked the kids and they liked me too , like Zaid he is from Jordan he kept
smiling to me and he hugged me a lot and kissed me . I liked the way that the
teacher dealt with the kids .She teach them how to depends on themselves , like at
the eating time the kids eat by themselves without the teachers help . I also surprised
when they started to count the numbers , and when the teacher asked them to give a
word for each letter that they learnt . Miss Zainab was so smart and she knew what
should she says or do in the right time . I really liked her class and I hope to be like
her because she become my hero .

In the end I think that I had a good first impression because I didnt break the
roles of the nursery ,and I was interesting in every thing that they did . Moreover all
the teachers were friendly with me ,and we laughed a lot. So I am happy with my
first impression . I think that I did very well .
