At Least 2300 students were given financial assistance from the CLGU for the school year 2020

“Under the administration of the City Mayor Darwin Estranero, amount and slots for the said scholarship
have been modified, giving P4000.00 and 2500 slots per semester to students in need,” City Special
Concerns and Coordinating Office representative April Duruin told the CIO in an interview. In 2002, the
City Local Government Unit (CLGU) organized the scholarship program, giving out P2000.00 for tuition
fee assistance per semester to all scholars under the management of then former Mayor Camilo
Lammawin.

The program provides aid to students whose parents or guardians have income that does not exceed
P120k per annum. It caters to Senior High School students studying at private institutions within the
City, College students at either public or private schools provided they show a maintaining average of
75%; and Technical-Vocational (TechVoc) students with three (3) months or higher required days of
completion.

This serves as a bridge of young Tabukenos toward achieving their dreams and the CLGU’s means of
supporting its young people to secure a better life which will redound to a better Tabuk City in time.
Mayor Estranero said, with this program, we hope to support our young people in their education with
the hope that they will become productive citizens in the future.

The City Mayor encouraged more students to apply as the 2500 slots for 2020 was not filled. Only 2282
scholars qualified for the first semester and 2041 for the preceding semester. He also advised students
not to waste this chance, and appeals to others who need assistance to go to the scholarship office and
apply. Other benefits include P20k congratulatory incentives to scholars graduating Suma Cum laude in
college, P15k for Magna Cum laude, P10k for Cum laude, and P5k for students graduating with academic
