Bioluminescent

Pollination
Rose Carollo

Rationale/Summary
I wanted to do this project because it sounded fun and I
wanted to know what would happen if I put luminescence in
flowers. When I researched bioluminescence and flowers
many things came up and not much came up about my
project. This looked like a good project because there
wasnt really any answer to my question. I decided to get a
lot of glow sticks so that I wouldnt run out of luminescence
liquid.

Investigative Question
My investigation question is: what will
happen to flowers if I put different amounts of
luminescent liquid into their vases?

Hypothesis
If I add more luminescence to the flowers
vases it will cause the flowers to die faster.

Variables
My independent variable is the amount of luminescence.
My dependant variable is finding out what will happen to
the flowers.
Other possible variables that were kept constant throughout
the project is the amount of water and the size of the three
vases because they are staying the same.

Controls
During this project I will be checking for a
change in height, weird growing patterns, color,
and physical appearance.

Materials Needed
These are the following materials I needed for this
experiment:
7 glowsticks (for the luminescence liquid)
3 cups of water
Enough white flowers to fill 3 vases
3 vases
A notebook to write down my data

Procedure
1. Put one cup of water into the first vase and put a third of
the flowers into this vase. Also put in one cut open glow
stick
2. Put another cup of water into the second vase along
with a third of the white flowers. I also need to put in two
cut open glow sticks
3. Do the same thing in the third vase except this time put
in four cut open glow sticks
4. Write down data everyday for a week

Results
The more luminescence there was in the
vase with the flowers, the faster the flowers
died. The vase with one glow stick took the,
most time to die. The second vase took less
time to die than the first vase but, more time
than the last vase. The last vase took the least
time to die.

Conclusion
My conclusion did support my results. I proved my
hypothesis correct because I thought the more
luminescence put in the vase, the faster the flower would
die and this was correct. The more luminescence liquid that
was put in the vase with the flowers caused the flowers to
die faster. I changed a couple of things while doing my
experiment. First, I was going to change the amount of
water in the vases but, I decided not to. I also was going to
put the luminescence, water, and flowers into each vase
separately and measure their data each day and take three
weeks instead of one.

Next Time/Future Considerations

Next time I would put in different independent
variables in with the flowers to see what would
happen.
I would maybe watch for a change in amount of
water or what would happen to the water.
