I choose the book the The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstien because when I read
the story I looked at the story and thought about relationship between a
mother and a child. Its about love, nurturing and family. The book is very deep
because the boy keeps taking from the tree and the tree keeps giving to the
boy to make him happy. Until one day the tree has nothing left because the
boy who has grown into a man has left only a stump. That is when the man
stops asking for anything but finally sits by the tree and enjoys the world go
by. He is happy, which is what the tree wanted all along. I decided to take my
project in a different direction to the story because I wanted to take the love
part and use it as my main foundation and concept turning it into a fairytale
with a magic tree.

Using Facial features
to influence my
design and show the
nurturing form of a
female to a tree.

Final Design Ideas

Hands and arms

in certain position
have a motherly
connotation and
mean embrace
and nurture.
I incorporated
that into my tree
using curves like
a loving embrace.

I will use colour to

show the change
and growth. Making
the colours duller
like showing life
decaying with age.

texturing
Leaves

Using Alans on Shader FX Part 4:

Transparency I will use the same idea to
texture my leaves. Using transparently
on flat polygon planes with my own
textures I will be able to manipulate the
geometry to create leaves. The issue I
may have is randomness with dispersing
my leaves on the tree making it look
natural.

Lighting
With another one of Alans tutorials,
Mental Ray Part 4: Physical Sun &
Sky I will use lighting to show the
different seasons in my scene. As I
eventually want 4 scenes with 4
different season this tutorial will be
very important for me and my
environment.
