Which are the symptoms?

generalized tiredness or weakness

weight loss
fever and night sweats.
coughing
chest pain, coughing up of sputum (material
from the lungs) and/or blood.

What is TB?
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection,
primarily in the lungs
(a pneumonia) , caused by
bacteria called Mycobacterium
tuberculosis.
Why is vaccination not routinely carried
out worldwide?
Although scientific knowledge may make
vaccination an obvious preventive
measure, the lack of money, political will and
public confidence in the process often
makes it difficult to implement effectively.

Transmission
A person can become infected with
tuberculosis bacteria when he or she
inhales minute particles of
infected sputum from the air. The
bacteria get into the air when someone
who has a tuberculosis lung infection
coughs, sneezes, shouts, or spits

Which is the cause of the infection ?

Tuberculosis is ultimately caused by
the Mycobacterium tuberculosis that is
spread from person to person through
airborne particles.
Most people already have the bacteria
in their body but the immune system
stops it to become active

TB

How does the vaccine works ?

By injecting into the body a material which is
chemically similar to a given disease organism
(such as the tuberculosis baccilus) the immune
system is activated, and will prepare an immune
response to that disease before the actual disease
organism ever enters the body.

People who are most at risk to become infected with TB

Those who live with others who have active TB infections
Poor, homeless people, Alcoholics and intravenous drug users
Foreign-born people who come from countries with endemic
TB
Older people, nursing home residents, and prison inmates
Those who suffer from malnutrition
Diabetics, cancer patients, and those with HIV/AIDS or other
immune system problems
Workers in refugee camps or shelters
