MYTHS ABOUT

LYCANS
Dakota Webster

Lycanthropy

The term Lycanthropy comes from the greek words Lukos, "man" and Anthropos, "Wolf"

The mythos of the Werewolf has existed in some form or another since the
times of ancient Greece.

Lycaon, King of Arcadia was transformed into a wolf after serving the flesh
of his son to the Greek god Zeus in an attempt to discredit Zeus' divinity.

Europe
14th Century
During the middle ages, the fear of Werewolves stormed through Europe.
Wolves were known to attack men unprovoked and were thought to be evil
men doing the devils work. The folklore of the werewolf fizzled out in
England in the 14th century, most likely due to the wolf being widely hunted
by the Anglo-Saxons.

The Beast of Gvaudan

Another famous French Werewolf case was that of the Beast of Gvaudan that
supposedly attacked around 210 people in this region of south-central France
between 1764 and 1767, with 113 of them losing their lives.

Those people to have seen it describe it as having a wolf-like appearance with

reddish fur, an extremely long tail and huge, vicious teeth.

Werewolves: Where Did the Belief in the

Werewolf Begin? Is There Any Proof?
The First werewolf movie ever produced is called "The Wolf Man" and it was
released in 1941. That is when the fear of werewolves started. But most
people were not aware that werewolves have dated back thousands of years,
even before christ.

A Sumerian text was written in cuneiform and is known as the Epic of

Gilgamesh. In this text made up of eleven tablets, the main character
Gilgamesh seems to take the form of a werewolf.

Difference Between Lycans and

Werewolves
Lycans are more wolf based. They can shift appearance when they want, night
or day. They represent more of a large walking wolf with a mans posture, and
of course much more muscular than werewolves. The Lycan is a
Transylvanian based creature. The evidence is strongly supported, but it is
nothing similar to a werewolf at all. The Lycan is also much smarter than a
typical werewolf.

Descriptions

Alphas are the most powerful breed of Werewolves that are recognizable by their glowing red eyes. In
order to become an Alpha, a Werewolf has to kill another Alpha to attain their position as leader of a
pack or form a new pack by gaining the loyalty of other Werewolves.

Betas are the second most powerful and most common breed of Werewolves. They are recognizable by
their glowing yellow eyes. To become a Beta, one has to be bitten by another Werewolf or be born as
one.
An Omega is a term used to refer to a lone wolf, a Werewolf without a pack. Omegas are virtually no
different from Betas, though they lack the power that comes from the support of a pack.

Packs
Werewolves are generally social creatures that will seek out and form packs to
increase their strength and form relationships. Similar to real wolves, the
desire to belong to a pack is natural instinct based on social needs and
security. Packs can vary in size and power, but are always dominated by an
Alpha, the strongest wolf in the pack. The Alpha is viewed as the leader of the
pack and other Werewolves will form a hierarchy below him. Werewolves in
a pack will often display a strong pack mentality and will be fiercely loyal to
each other and primarily to their Alpha.
