Assistive Technology Module Evaluation
In this module, the teacher has to look at assistive technology and what it was. The
purpose of this activity was to give the opportunity to enhance an individuals understanding of
what classroom teachers can do to help students with disabilities (SWD) fully succeed in their
use of assistive technology (AT). In this paper, the students identity will be changed to keep
them anonymous. They will be referred to from here on out as Student A.
Student A has Individual Education Plan (IEP) that states that they are to have extended
time in math, they have a hard time transferring what they hear to paper, need to sit towards the
front separated from distraction, and have ADHD so they need to be refocused. Currently the
only instructions to help the student in math were to have extended time during exams. Below
are the Assistive Technology Implementation Plan and the WATI Assistive Technology
Consideration Guide.

While the student was using the technology, data was gathered. The student determined that
they felt that assistive devices were engaging and helped them feel more confident about what
they were doing. The ELMO was awesome! It totally helped me understand budgets and take
better notes! This is the feedback that was received from the student.
While the student was using the assistive technology, improvement in the students behavior
and grades was noticed. The student experienced an increase in their grade and in their
confidence in the material. They were currently learning about how to make a budget given a
percent value and a monthly net pay. The student was more engaged and confident with their
answers while using the calculator and the notes they had taken. The assistive technology most
certainly helped the student be more successful. It makes me wish that I had done this sooner
with this student and with any other student in the class who need it. I found that it not only
helped this student that it helped all of the students in class take more detailed notes on the
material and the problems that we were doing. The student had received a 42 on a quiz on the
budgets before the assistive technology was implemented. The student received a 98 on the test
that covered the same material plus come new material. I am so glad that this was able to help
this student so much!
