Inspection and Maintenance Program
Sliding Bearings are maintenance free devices. These guidelines pertain to checking the surroundings of sliders, maintaining clearances and visual inspections. The following general maintenance guidelines shall be carried out, at a minimum, every 1 year of use. In addition, the isolators shall be inspected after any seismic event. Further, after any extreme or unusual event (local fire, flooding, etc.) sliders shall be inspected.
Routine Inspection and Maintenance Program
There shall be no obstruction which prevents the movement of the sliders horizontally in any direction. The area around each slider shall be cleaned of all debris and construction materials. The stainless steel sliding surface shall be kept free of any dust, dirt, or rust build up. If there is any build up on the stainless steel, it should be cleaned immediately to allow for free sliding of the bearing during a seismic event. Any basic solvent such as automotive brake cleaner can be used to clean the surface. If there is a moat around the structure, it also shall be free of any debris or obstructions.
Post-Event Inspection and Maintenance Program
1. All checks in the Routine Inspection and Maintenance Program shall be performed. 2. If any unusual surface features are seen, DIS should be notified. 3. In case of a fire near the sliders, inspection of the sliders shall be performed.
