You are on page 1of 6

You are a Cossack living along the Terek River.

In the past, your people lived

happily under Russian rule, as you were still allowed your freedom in
exchange for defending Russia. However, the Russians have slowly increased
their control over your people, and you are gradually losing your freedom.
Males are required to serve in the army for 20 years, the ataman (chief ruler)
is appointed by the Russian government, and your village is required to
quarter (house) ignorant Russian soldiers.
For the most part, you are a civilization of farmers, who lead full lives of work
(making famous Chikhir wine, or driving cattle across the steppes) and
because the men are usually gone at army checkpoints or on Russian
military campaigns, the women are left at home to do the work. This,
however, has left most Cossack women with an uncharacteristic strength and
firmness of character.

Situation 1

The Russians are more powerful, more extensive, and richer

than you are--they also have many wars going on around the
fringes of the country. They're trying to take your people, pull
strings in your villages, and use your people for their
militaries.
Come to a consensus on what you're going to do:

A. Bargain with them--fight for their military, but get

something in return
B. Integrate into their culture and fight for them, for your
safety

Situation 3

The Russians soon try to push farther, beginning to take your

rights and land as well as making you fight for them.
Conditions for you worsen, and slowly you see your culture
being destroyed as more and more of you go to fight for
Russia and your territory grows smaller. Again, come to a
consensus and decide what to do.

A. Let it happen
B. Try to leave Russia, giving over your land and
becoming nomads
C. Revolt against the czars

Situation 4

Because of your actions, you have lost autonomy and

territory to the Russians and the Cossack culture is no longer
recognized in the world.

You are a rich Russian elite living in Moscow. You have a good
life good food, large mansions, and an army of serfs
(servants). However, your good life is like glass one mistake
could explode into a scandal that could drag you to ruin.
Emotions and true feelings must be hidden away in exchange
for fake pleasantries and artificial friendships to gain favor
from important people. Its much like a dangerous game that
has a thousand rules and regulations and heavy price. A
game you must play, or else youll fall into ruin. Should you
be living in the era before World War II, you are what Moscow
society calls des jeunes hommes, young people. You are a
generation of rich, parentless young nobles who have
denounced or lost your families in return for new beliefs,
taking a lot of the money and status with you.

Situation 1

You are in the midst of many wars on your fringes, and have
decided to recruit the smaller Cossack villages to fight in your
militia. However, many of them aren't fond of this idea.

Situation 2

The Cossacks have eventually agreed to fight for you, but

many want their own autonomy, or freedom, in return. Come
to a consensus.

A. Agree
B. Disagree

Situation 4

Let me remind you that you are still more powerful than the
Cossacks. If they do not sit quietly (by revolting or attempting
to leave) and let you control them, what will you do?

A. Put down revolts or prevent leaving, permanently

B. Let them go, along with their territory and military
service
C. Declare war on them
