Clay or Crayola Model Magic, (optional materials if class is painting: watercolor paint,
paintbrushes, paper towels, paper cup for water)

1) Show students a slideshow or a fun video clip about African coil pots
2) Give one package of clay to each student
3) Have students pass around the completed example of the African coil pot, as you
explain what you will be doing in class today
4)Demonstrate to the students how to roll snakes and coil the clay and join them to
create a pot.
5) Let students work on the project independently
6)Walk around the room to make sure each student is staying on task and making their
pots in a correct manner.
7) Once everyone has finished their pots, break up into their tables, and explain how
they can use their pots.
8) Place them on a rack to dry.
9) Dry for 24 hours.
