Students will meet at the doorway in the mornings to sing the lunch
choices. Students are expected to unpack their book bags at their
cubbies, make their lunch choice, and sit and watch the morning
movie quietly on the carpet. Once most students are present, I will
take attendance by calling roll and also checking off the breakfast
sheet. We start our day by listening to the morning announcements,
eating breakfast, and having our morning meeting. At the end of the
day, students will be expected to pack up their book bags when I call
their name and only when I call their name so that does not cause
heavy traffic and arguments. I will have the students sit on the carpet
with their book bags on while they listen to a goodbye song or
relaxing music. We will talk about all the positives that we had in our
day so that students will leave happy and ready to come back the
next day.
I will always try to pass out materials before the lesson begins while
the students are occupied with something else or with the related arts
teacher. I will call the students to the carpet to explain the directions
so that the materials on their tables do not distract the students. If I
need to collect student work than I will instruct the students to leave
their work on their table in their space with their names on it and
move to the carpet for our next activity. While the students are
involved with their next activity, I will walk around or ask a student to
walk around and collect all the work. Both of these strategies will
hopefully allow for more instructional time.
I will assign weekly jobs to each student because I believe that helps
them build responsibility. The jobs will include, but not limited to,
sweeper, line leader, bookkeeper, distributor, collector, and more.
These jobs are designed to keep the students prideful while doing
