Circulation of Vehicles

The Precedence
The Rules and Regulations

Consideration for Circulation

1. Circulation patterns shall be as obvious and simple as
possible. All likely pedestrian routes should be considered in
the design phase to eliminate short cuts which will
eventually damage landscaped areas.
2. Circulation system design should avoid conflicts between
vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic and pedestrian
circulation shall take precedence over vehicular circulation.
3. Crosswalk with yellow striping in plastic paint, speed bumps,
or signage shall be provided to emphasize the conflict point
and improve its visibility and safety.
4. Circulation routes shall focus upon main entries and exits and
also identify secondary access points.
5. Site facilities and amenities can be accessed by people with
disabilities

Types of Parking
Off- Street
One of the most common and accepted method of
parking in Malaysia.
The provision of off-street parking spaces is
required whenever:
A new building is constructed
An existing building is altered or enlarged
A new use is established in an existing building
Additions to a single-family or multi-family dwelling
increase the original floor area by more than 50%
per unit or increase the number of sleeping rooms

When siting off-street

parking areas, the designer
should consider:
Creating multiple smaller
parking areas rather than
one large mass
Integrating planted islands
to increase aesthetics
Minimize extensive grading
operations by designing to
the topography
Ensuring a distance of at
least 15 meters is provided
from proposed parking
area entrances and
Exits to intersections
Minimizing the number of
entrances and exits

Parallel
Parallel parking can be used when off-street parking
cannot accommodate or is not practical. The
parking spaces dimension should be a minimum of
7.5m long and at least 2.75m wide. On-street
should have 3.35m instead.
