Observation #4-2hr observation
My 4th day of observation was in 2nd grade, I found it was entirely like first grade. The
math was a little more difficult but nothing a 2nd grader couldnt handle. Reading was assigned
by the teacher as she picked the students randomly. Those students who needed help, the teacher
told the student the word they were stuck on and the child kept on reading. Then reading the
book went to another student and so forth. I also noticed that the voice rules were the same, with
progression from excellent too bad, so the voice rules must be school wide. I also noticed the
voice rules were enforced, sometimes with strictness and other times loosely, depending on how
the teacher felt. I also noticed that familiar cartoon characters were used in reading, and math. I
think the teacher is trying to keep familiar the classroom familiar and use the cartoon characters
to encourage the children to learn. After all if Snoopy is seen reading a book, then maybe this
will inspire the children to want to read also. The 2nd graders were very impressionable so I kept
out of the teaching arena and let the teacher continue with her lesson. I also noticed the 2nd
graders were more open to strangers in the classroom. It didnt take no time for them to start
trusting me to help them with their school work, even if it meant having to move their clothes pin
to the new level of breaking the voice rule. I was happy to see that the teacher wasnt too harsh
on the students that did talk to me. My two hours went fast, so boredom didnt get to me. There
was so much going on.
