American Revolutions Impact on Women Paper Reflection

In this class we had to select certain books to write papers on. Carol Berkins book on
women during and after the American Revolution was one of the books I selected because it gave
a perspective that is often marginalized in history. We have talked a lot in Neag about the danger
of a single narrative and I saw this particular book as a way to avoid that singular narrative by
detailing the life of women during that time and how the revolution impacted them. This is also
the type of book that I could include in my future classrooms because it provides a different
perspective and it also allows students to work with a non-fiction book. I cant help but think
about the textbook addendum assignment I just completed in my advanced methods course and
how this book, or excerpts from it, would fit perfectly in a unit about the American Revolution to
replace the likely one short paragraph on women at the end of a textbook section.
