Environmental Board

NAEYC Standard 4.c: Using Developmentally Effective Approaches: Using a broad repertoire
of developmentally appropriate teaching/learning approaches.
ECE Outcome 4: Uses best practices in teaching and learning.

The environment board consists of my Environment Style and my Room Arrangement and
Placement. I used Kaplan to create my environmental classroom floor plan. I used a mixture of
earthy tones with a twist of multicultural tones. I made sure there were a writing area, block area,
computer center, science area, book area, group time area, art center, dramatic play area and a
math area. Outside the classroom there is access to a grass area with a sandbox, swings, a garden,
bushes, a tree, and plants. I wanted to have nature involved inside and outside the classroom. On
the wall there are posters of different cultures and a family tree where pictures of the childrens
family can be displayed.

I learned by doing this environmental board it shows what type of teacher I want to be for the
children I teach. I wanted to bring nature inside the classroom by having earthy tones and
materials in the classroom. I also wanted the children to feel safe in their environment by having
family pictures displayed on a family tree in the classroom. I would bring in posters, music, and
other materials that would let the children explore different cultures in the world. I find that
children love to explore and learn through hands on exploration so this classroom would be the
perfect place to learn.
