In 1991, Congress proclaimed the second full week of April as a national week of recognition dedicated to those e who serve as public safety telecommunicators Public Safety Agencies nationwide recognize the pivotal role played by telecommunicators, dispatchers, communications operators, radio control personnel, by whatever job title, who utilize telephones, radios, computers and technical skills to provide support to Law Enforcement, Fire Services, and Emergency Medical Services. The Village of Riverside and Riverside Police Department observe National Telecommunicators Week, April 1218, in honor of the dedicated dispatchers who handle our 9-1-1 calls, dispatch police and fire personnel, and coordinate with surrounding agencies for other law enforcement, fire services and emergency medical services on a routine basis. This year Riverside is recognizing their full time dispatchers with a specially designed 911 challenge coin. This small token will be delivered to each dispatcher to express our appreciation for all dispatchers who work around the clock, all year long, to support officers in the field and help keep the public safe.
