HOW CAN EMPLOYEES BE MOTIVATED?

Within an organization, if work is not being carried out properly, it could be due to a lack of motivation
instead of a lack of ability from the part of employees. There are numerous ways to motivate employees
but since all employees are different, the source of motivation of each might be different. This is why this
can be explained by the different theories on motivation.

THEORY OF HUMAN MOTIVATION

This theory, developed by Abraham Maslow is based on human relations. It assumes that:

Every single employee is motivated in all ways,

Employees are rational in their actions,
There is always one or the other need which motivates people,
The basic needs of every person is the same,
Needs can be placed in order of its importance.

Based on these assumptions, Abraham Maslow formulated a hierarchy of needs in the 1940s, which says
that if the most basic needs of a person is not met, he will not desire strongly the next level of needs.
