Experiences: Describe authentic (real life, hands-on not representational) materials and enticing/ creative experiences in
which children are actively engaged. Safety should be addressed if warranted.
Teachers will read the story then go through and discuss each house. Example questions: Which pig built
the straw house? Which house fell down/stayed standing? Teachers will have similar authentic materials
to have students do hands on exploration of building materials presented in story.
Safety: bricks will not be thrown and it will be expressed how to properly explore this material. Sticks and
Straw are not for poking purposes but to be touched and felt and explored. Consider small groups for
student who does have random temper tantrums.
Evidence of student learning: Being able to recall events from a story that was read to them. Students
can then describe the materials presented to them and how they are different from one another. Being able
to recall experiences, use previous knowledge, ask questions and make predictions.

RM: The wind can
blow it down.
Wonderings
-What if we built a
house with all of
them? (all materials)
