Students seem to be more focused on getting good grades, which is fine, although as educators, we
need to also find a way to implement real world scenarios that the students can use when they get in
the real world and eventually the workforce.

I find this portion of the article to ring true. I have always felt that students are bring taught to the test
and are not being taught real world scenarios. Something like learning how to do taxes in a math class,
or how to budget in an economics class, things that the students can apply in real life.

What are other means of assessments other than test, and quizzes that we can use to ensure that the
students are understanding the content? How many times during a unit should I assess the student?s?

If students have other problems on their plate, they won?t be as interested in what you?re teaching
because they have other stuff going on in their lives. If their home life or environment is rough, or they
have a job to help support their family, school might not be at the top of their list.

Some students aren?t going to like some of the units we teach, so it?s up to us to try and relate those
topics to the students. We also have to ensure that we aren?t getting away from the standards too
much when we scaffold to ensure the students are engaged.
