"a"

We use " a " before words which begin with


consonants (b,c,d,f)
we also use "a" with singular nouns that do not begin
with vowel sounds
Examples:
a big car
a Malaysian
a boy
a uniform
a university

"an"

We use an with singular nouns that begin with vowel


sound.
Examples
an apple
an orange
an hour
an inventor
an eagle
"the"

We use "the" with nouns that we are sure about or


have been mentioned before
We also use the with a noun which is one of its kind.
Examples:
the rain
the wind
the world
Ali bought a piano. The piano is for his sister.
