The Nantucket Mitchell

(Ode to my friend, Poe)

So the weather dragged me in

Picked me up by my collar
Tugged me by my chin
Said, “Figured I’d find you here
It’s been a long month
Please have a seat, take a chair”
You know I’ve missed you!

To the point, I realize we never wrote back

Typical even asymptomatic
Like the many days we’ve dressed in gray
Hey man, you know a jester isn’t one to blame
And I’m just happy to see you!

I must admit I’ve been frantic but fair

Cautiously intuitive with reckless care
And I’m thinking of getting old,
And I’m thinking about control,
It seems like a decent gig
What do you think?

So the weather beat you down

Took your loved ones, made you a clown?
With such strange events to make us clear
And to bring us here/near
Perhaps it’s like one of those accidents
That’s suppose to happen,
That’s why you’re here…

(Laughter) A little taste of Robert Frost, I know, I can feel the “I told you so(s)”!
