The Walt Disney Concert Hall designed by architect

Frank Gehry and opened for public in 2003. From
the stainless steel curves of its striking exterior to the
state-of-the-art acoustics of the hardwood panelled
main auditorium, the 3.6-acre complex embodies the
unique energy and creative spirit of the city of Los
Angeles and its orchestra. But the hall have encounted
some issues involves a small part of the building 4,000 square feet compared with a total surface area
of 200,000 square feet that generates ray-heats onto

which concentrated sunlight on a particular angel of

the building that caused heat reflection. This is related
to its complex embodies stainless steel curves. Glare
was seasonal, involving sun angles that begin in April
and last into the summer.
Solutions for the issue:
Carry out technological studies in order to avoid
direct sunlight concentrating on the surface ways
before construction phases begun.
Adequate material selection to comply with that
particular region, in which the average temperature

is between (9 -20) in January alone.

The design of a project should always follow
the technology guides and studies to decide the
orientation of the building in general and the faade.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located in a built
up district of Los Angeles mostly residential The
Walt Disney Concert Hall project is being designed
as world-class concert hall with a seating capacity of
2,380 seats. The project was constructed on top of the
existing Los Angeles County parking structure at the
southwest corner of the First Street and the Grand
Avenue, immediately south of the Dorothy Chandler
Pavilion.
The structural system for the Concert Hall is a complex
set of interconnected steel braced frames and trusses.
Originally, a structural steel moment frame system
was envisioned for the project. However, in light of
the experience with steel moment frames during the
1994.
Northridge earthquake, a braced frame alternative
was substituted. The difficulty in utilizing steel
moment frame system for this structure is particularly
due to the fact that most beams and columns
of the structure intersect at no orthogonal angles.
Furthermore, on many cases several project has a
total floor area of approximately 270,000 sq. ft. above
grade and consists of eight elements as follows:
1. The Concert Hall including the wrappers and
East and West Stair Towers;
2. West Atrium
3. Pre-concert Area
4. East Lobby and Foyers
5. East Atrium
6. Conductors Suite
7. Building Base and Los Angeles Philharmonic Office
Building
8. The Foundation Room.

Task 6: Contemporary
precedent on housing

Information:

in the heart of the city centre on St Peter's Street. Nottingham
1 is a students accommodation only minutes away from
all business shopping cultural and entertainment and it is
available to the general public and includes self-catering
accommodation offering single or double rooms all of which
are en-suite.
Steel structure technologies:
During the construction process, architects used steel frame
and steel structure for the construction of the project. The
vertical open steel system has made the building one of
the well-recognized projects in Nottingham. The building
is a multi-story to accommodate (specially) students in a

The design of the building evolved as a response to the
existing mature landscaping and the requirement to create
a memorable entrance statement that would increase
the complexs visibility. This led to the schemes main
architectural statement a multi-storey steel clad structure
which sits on the bank of River Leen.
Despite the Opal Group, the company behind the complex,
has called in KPMG as administrators on a number of its
sites around the country due to financial bust, the project
is considered to be one of the most succesfull buildings in
Nottingham in terms of Architural design.

Environmentally friendly project as it sits on the bank of
River Leen without causing an impact on the surrounding.
Context-wise, the project faade and its design differ
from the neighbouring properties but the space left
between the nearest buildings and the project itself
reaches around 100m. This distance gives the project its
distinct appearance.
The train line runs right next to the project, but well
design and selection of right materials provided noise
protection for the residents.
The study of the precedent of this project has led me to
pay careful attention to the layout of projects in preserved
areas where water sources run next to a construction site.
Sustainable design must reflect on comfort of residents of a
building by providing the most adequate materials in order
to enhance the living standards architects ideas.
