Good oral hygiene now will help reduce the chances of losing your teeth as you
age
An unhealthy mouth increases chances of gum disease.
Doctors are able to gain lot knowledge about your mouth just by one swab of
saliva.
Your mouth is able to detect early signs of systemic diseases.
A systemic disease affects your entire body not just one organ.
An example of a systemic disease is diabetes.
Another example is HIV.
Doctors can test cortisol levels of newborn babies by taking a sample of saliva.
Cortisol levels can detect stress.
Fragments of certain bone-specific proteins can be measured to monitor bone loss
for osteoporosis testing.
Some cancer markers can also be detected with saliva.
Saliva is one of the biggest defenses against bacteria viruses etc.
