Teaching Across
Cultures Field
Experience
EDU 3271
Standard 10:
Leadership and
Collaboration

Faces covered to protect childrens privacy.

The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for
student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals,
and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
During our field experience in
Muskogee, Oklahoma, we
worked with students at the
Murrow
Indian
Childrens
Home. We were with one
student during the school day
and then tutored the same
student after school at the
home. I worked with an
eighth grade student that
was placed in a high
achieving special education
classroom. Alice Robertson
Middle School provides every
student with a laptop to
enhance learning at home
and at school. I was asked to
teach a lesson on Greek
Mythology and I wanted to
integrate technology into my
lesson.

Mythology story. After, I

passed out a worksheet
where they needed to use
their laptops to research the
answers to the questions
about the deities. They could
use the websites provided on
the worksheet or do a Google
Search to investigate the
answers. I also provided an
extra worksheet with extra
information on the gods to
help
them
answer
the
questions.
The
use
of
technology in this lesson
allowed the students to work
independently and at their
own pace. Walking around
the room, the students were
enjoying
looking
up
information on the gods; they
even
began
researching
I first read the class a Greek other deities.

After school, we tutored the

students from the Indian
Murrow home where we
were also staying. This
allowed us to experience
life with the students inside
and outside of the school
setting. We were able to
get to know them on a
deeper level than solely in
the classroom. I was able to
learn about my students
interests, his ambitions after
school, and about his family
life. Using technology and
working with the students
both in and out of the
classroom allowed me to
connect to the greater
community my student was
involved in.
