Artifact Reflection
Title of Experience/Artifact:

TGMD Test, High School Flag Football Assessment

Date Experience Completed:

Fall 2014

Describe your educational experience/artifact:

For this standard I chose to pick two artifacts that show my understanding in
Assessment and how to use them to help me as a physical education teacher. My first artifact is
the TGMD Test, this test is administered to younger students to see how well they can perform
different movement skills. Some skills include: kicking, skipping, throwing and leaping. I used
this test on a home school student in the Platteville gymnasium. The second artifact was a flag
football test that I gave to my peers when we taught a flag football assessment in class. This
test was a review of all the basic concepts and skills learned in flag football such as plays, what
the jobs of each position and basic rules of the game.

Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment

I believe these artifacts best aligns with Standard Eight: Assessment: Teachers know
how to test for student progress. The teacher understands and uses formal and informal
assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical
development of the pupil.
The two assessment artifacts show that I have competence in assessment by providing
evidence using the TGMD test and creating a high school flag football test. The first
assessment artifact TGMD test was performed on an elementary Platteville student in which he
performed a wide range of activities while I instructed him and assessed him on how well he
performed. Some of the activities he performed included: hopping, skipping, swinging,
kicking, passing and catching along with many more. The second artifact was the high school
flag football test in which I created in my assessment and screening class. This test showed my
ability to create a test that checked for understanding of the lesson of flag football. The test
included different multiple questions, true false questions and a diagram. Being able to assess
students is an important factor when teaching. Overall in both of the tests I was able to
successfully use assessment to achieve my goal in performing different tests.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Alignment

I believe these artifacts best align with KSD1.f. ASSESSES STUDENT LEARNING
The candidate understands, is committed to, and can develop assessments that are clearly
stated and congruent with instructional goals. The students are aware of how they are meeting
the established standards and are involved in the goal setting process.
I aligned this KSD to the assessment standard because this KSD is the definition of
assessment and what teachers need to do to assess students. Being able to assess student
learning is a primary part of a physical education classroom. The teacher should be able to
assess how well the students are meeting the objectives and standards within the lesson.

Explain what you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:

I learned many of useful information that came with not only learning about different
types of informal and formal assessments but also giving them to students. For instance I
learned how to successful test a student using the TGMD test. I was able to give this test to two
different age level students. Each student performed differently and I was able to get
information about what each students strengths and weaknesses are that involve items from he
TGMD test. Also I was able to learn how to come up with my own type of test that I used for
my flag football assessment. Being able to learn about new assessment tools is very important
when it comes to physical education because teachers need to be able to assess how well their
students are performing.

Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience/artifact:
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator from these artifacts was that I
am learning what types of assessments help me as a teacher more than others. I know that by
being able to assess students will help me better myself as a teacher to know how students will
respond to each lesson. The more I assess my students on there understanding of a lesson I
know what to work on to help better myself. Overall I learned that the more I assess my
students the more it will help my teaching which is what an educator is always trying to do, be
the best we can be.
