Ears will often spring surprises Coming in such different sizes. Ears are crinkled, even folded. Ears turn pink when you are scolded. Ears can have the oddest habits Standing rather straight on rabbits. Ears are little tape-recorders Catching all the family orders. Words, according to your mother, Go in one and out the other. Each side of your head you'll find them. Don't forget to wash behind them. Precious little thanks they'll earn you Hearing things that don't concern you. Phonics Element or Word Study Activity: State the phonics element - Phonological Awareness/Rhyming Explain the activity in step-by-step instructions. What will the teacher do? What will the students do? 1. Children will sing along to the song "Do Your Ears Hang Low" as the teacher leads. The teacher will be facing the children and lead them along to the song. 2. Teacher will review with the children rhymes in the poem and discuss rhyming words that they must have the same sound but they aren't always spelled the same way. Teacher will talk about the first 2-4 lines of the poem and how they rhyme together and the sounds. 3. Teacher will give children cut lines of the poem and the children have to match up the rhyming words from the poem to recreate the rhyming lines. 4. Teacher will give children the following on paper squares word "at" and "m, n, b, etc.." for the children to add to make a word and rhyming ones.
