Lesson Title: How Technology Changed WWI
Standards: USHG 6.2.2
Topic: World War I
Rationale:
The technology introduced during WWI changed the way modern warfare is fought. These
technological advances helped shape what Europe looks like today, the way WWII was fought,
and have been improved upon to shape current day militaries. WWI is the war where soldiers
entered the battlefield on horses and left on planes.
Goals/Objectives: "Students will be able to"
1. Identify the use of technology in WWI and its effect on the war.
2. Analyze articles using technology.
3. Identify how technology has changed modern warfare in present day.
Materials:
1. Smart Board
2. Laptops/IPads
3. Internet connection
4. Power Point presentation
Introduction: 5 min
Students will be asked what we covered in the previous lesson
Two quotes will be read to help students understand the national feelings about the war.
Outline of Events: 40 min
Students will be asked how technology plays a role in modern military and the
advantages it gives.
A video will be played depicting the technology in WWI
Students will be given an overview of five inventions that were used during WWI
Students will be given the task to look over primary source pictures from the war and to
pick out an invention that they will independently research.
Students will sign out laptops and using the information provided answer the three
questions that have been posted on the board.
Lesson Summary: 5 min
Students will put away their laptops and hand in their work
They will be given a chance to share what they have learned with the class ends.
Modifications For Diverse Learners:
Guided notes with a planned out website will be given to students that have an IEP which
requires this type of aid.
