    ofunderstandingyourpastandcontinuingtoproceedforwardwithmodernized
    education.Theremustbeamiddlegroundandtheproducerofthisfilmisclearly
    attemptingtoshowthatinWestAfrica,toomanyofitscitizensareattemptingto
    abandontheiroldwaysinpursuitofwesternizedteachings.
    TheproducerconveysthisthroughhischaracterizationofMabospecifically.
    Maborepresentsthismiddlegroundbetweenthepastandpresent.JustasMabois
    attemptingtoexcelinschool,heisalsoattemptingtolearnthehistoryofhisname.While
    Maboattemptstosymbolizethismiddleground,weseehintsfromtheproducer
    throughoutthefilmthattraditionwillalwaysbethere.Attheendofthefilm,thevulture
    circlingMaborepresentsthevalueoftraditionandhowthepastwillalwaysbethereto
    guideMaboinhisjourney.ForMabo,thatguidancewillberepresentedthroughthe
    knowledgehenowhasofhispastandthequestionshewillseektobeanswered.Djeliba
    notfinishingthestoryalmostgivesMabothisdesiretopursuetheanswers,andtome,
    theproducerusesthisasawaytomakeastatementthatthepastandourinquirieswill
    alwaysbewhatdrivesourlives.
