1. You have experienced various pop culture’s growing up. Outline the pop culture you grew up
in bulleted form.
I have experienced various pop culture growing up and here is the example. In
entertainment category:

 When I was a child, I use to live with my grandma where listening to radio is our
entertainment especially that we are living in remote area of our barangay. We listening
to the different radio drama in it with different genre as if it is being dramatize.
 When I was in Kindergarten, we moved to the village and watching films and movies
using CRT TV and pirated disc where we pay 5 pesos to watch became the trend. It is
because only few, in our barangay, has CRT TV on their home and they are using it for an
extra income and to buy diesel to operate their electricity generator.
 When I was on my first grade, I was exposed to the television since we moved to the city
and watching Eat Bulaga at noon on GMA become our pastime.
 When I was in grade 2 or 3, Face to Face on TV5 was being introduced to me by my
cousins since then, watching it become my hobby to the point that missing the episode
of it is a loss for me.
 The following years, Showtime on ABS-CBN was become my favorite noontime show
until now.
I’ve experienced a lot more as I grow up and in different categories of pop culture and it shows
how the influence of others or what is in trend or in are being patronize by us without us
noticing it or when we intended to.
2. What pop culture icons/events are the most significant to you growing up, which you
treasure until today and why?
The pop culture that becomes the most significant for me is in the technology category
which is the invention of cellular phone or cellphone. I treasured it until today because it helps
me a lot especially in school and in communicating. One clicks at my phone; I can instantly talk
to my older brother which is miles away from us. I can even see his face using messenger which
is installed in my phone if I wanted to. I can easily share my location without the need of
explaining where exactly I am when my mom wants to know where I am or monitor my
whereabouts. I can easily contact my friends without chatting them one by one by creating a
group chat for us. Using phone, I can easily find more ideas about the lesson my teacher taught
us which I didn’t fully understand and learn. Using my phone, I can find good ideas for my
project, answer to my assignments, and tutorials online. And a cellular phone is very handy. You
can carry it everywhere without worrying of the large space for it because it can carry through
the pants pocket. Very convenient indeed at times like this where corona virus becomes a
threat especially in online class that we have right now.
3. Do you think you learned from the pop culture icons/events you discussed earlier? If yes,
what are the lessons you learned with these growing up?
The things I learned that have been discussed earlier is that, there’s a lot of pop culture
that we, Filipinos, think are came from us. The truth is, the foreign countries who invade our
country are the one who brought it unto us and we only patronize it or we are force to adapt it
until it became natural for us and become part of our living or our lives. It is good that we able
to know their pop culture but it is best to know which one is ours. We have our own. We may
acknowledge their pop culture but patronizing our own is a must. It will be gone when time
comes and we do not act on how to preserve and pass it down to the next generations of
Filipinos. Knowing that there’s a lot of new pop culture we have in the present. I also learned
that actually, it is not a bad thing that we are able to know the pop culture of the foreign
countries, maybe in some way on how the introduced it in our ancestors, because we got to
know how to make one out of it just like in film making. Maybe if we just learn from it.

4. Why do you think we must study and learn the origins and spread of pop culture in the
Philippines?
It is important to study and learn the origins and spread of pop culture in the Philippines
to know which one is from the foreign countries and which one is form our ancestors. A lot of
foreign county colonized the Philippines and there’s a lot of pop culture they have brought unto
us. To know which one is our own, we will able to improve and revive it so that the generation
that we have right now will be able to know and appreciate it as well as the future one. To keep
our identity in other word. Before the invaders come in our country, we have our own pop
culture in different categories and we are rich in it. Then the invaders come and we forgot who
we really are. What’s in the present is the one in trend or to be followed without remembering
the past ones. The past is the treasure of tomorrow. How can we say that we are a Filipino if we
can’t even name what was the national costume of our country? Also, to be identified which
one is worth to be treasured and follow and which one is not. To know which one is effective
and which one is not. Which one is helpful and which is not? Which one needs improvement
and which one is good enough.
